Teaching The Kids A Lesson

Weary of constantly picking clothes up from the floor of her son’s room, a mother finally laid down the law: each item of clothing she had to pick up would cost her son 25 cents.

By the end of the week, he owed her $3.50. She received the money promptly, along with a 50 cent tip and a note that read, “Thanks, Mom; keep up the good work.”

All Things Halloween

Has anyone else noticed how more and more people are getting into the Halloween spirit? Why not? Halloween is fun because you get to dress up and act like someone else if you want to. And you get free candy!

Anyway, here's a link to all things Halloween that I read about over on The Presurfer.

I Won't Be Making A Trip To Vegas Any Time Soon...

and I won't be buying a lottery ticket either. Why? I have no luck - not recently anyway. I've been trying to pull myself together - to move on from the miscarriage. I was doing pretty good at that when white smoke started pouring out from the vents in the ceiling after my husband switched the thermostat to heat. But before the smoke, there was a large pop and then smoke and then the grossest electrical fire smell I have ever smelled in my life. Luckily for us, it hasn't been freezing cold, so we've been managing with space heaters.

Maddie and I came home yesterday afternoon after eating lunch with my mother and I found one of our dogs, Willie, dead. That tore me up. It really tore me up when I realized yesterday was the 5-year anniversary of my grandmother's death.

Willie was 11 years old. I'd had him since he was six weeks old. Here's a picture of Willie shortly after we got him.

We'll miss you Willie B. You were a good dog. I love you, boy.

It's been said that bad things come in three's - well, that's three for me - I've had enough. It's got to get better.

Tackle It Tuesday - CLR Style

This is a day late, but I actually tackled this last week. I tackled the shower curtain in the bathroom with CLR Bath & Kitchen. I usually just take the shower curtain off and chunk it in the washing machine (which, in all honesty, is a lot easier and a lot less smelly). But since I had a free bottle of CLR, I thought I'd give it a shot. It turned out pretty good, but I had to scrub a little bit.

I Guess You Can Tell

I guess you can tell since I took off the baby countdown that I lost the baby.

We went in Monday the 13th for my first sonogram. I was 8 weeks pregnant at that time. The sonogram showed the baby was 6 weeks and it didn't have a heartbeat. I went in the next day and they took my blood to check my hormone level. It came back Wednesday at 7700. My doctor said that at that hormone level, 7700, you should not be able to see a fetal pole in the sonogram (which the sonographer did see).

I went back in on Thursday to check my hormone level again, and found out Friday it had dropped to 5700. Your hormone level should never drop when you're pregnant - it's supposed to almost double every 48-72 hours. Doctor told me I might start to miscarry, but he went ahead and scheduled a D&C for Tuesday morning.

I started miscarrying Friday - got progressively worse, and by Monday I was in severe pain along with the heaviest bleeding I've ever seen in my life. Doctor told me to go to the hospital and they performed the D&C at around 4:30 yesterday.

What's strange is yesterday was our daughter, Maddie's, third birthday. (Which, by the way, we celebrated her birthday Saturday. We had a party here at the house for her. She had a great time.)

Anyway, I would like to thank everyone for praying for us and thinking of us. I feel almost 100% better - just feel pretty emotionally drained.

Maddie Is A Finalist

I'm so excited. 5 Minutes For Mom picked Maddie as a finalist in the Sleeping Angel Photo Contest.

Go here and vote for her. She's #2.

Thanks, y'all!

Sorry No Posts Lately

I'm sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. We're going through a rough patch right now that hopefully will have a good outcome. I'm not a religious person, but I've left it up to God - given him my worries and am hoping for the best, but realize that might not happen. I just hope he gives me the strength to get through this, no matter the outcome. It has to do with my pregnancy. Either my dates are off or I'm in the middle of a miscarriage. I'm not usually one to ask for anything, but I sure could use your prayers. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for thinking of us.

Refresher Course On Why I Don't Like The Mall

Maddie and I decided to go to the mall today. I'm not a big shopper - not at all. But Maddie is having her pictures made Friday, and I was in search of the perfect outfit. First of all, the Verizon or some wireless phone company guy tries to stop me and sell me a family plan or something or other - not once but twice. I politely said, No thank you, and went on my way.

But this -- this lady who practically accosted me took the cake. She was sitting at one of those kiosk things. She jumps up from her seat saying something like, Oh, no, no, no - I can help you. I said, With what? She proceeds to take a dang flat iron and starts flat ironing my hair. Then she even mentioned flat ironing Maddie's hair. That just sent me off the edge. I told her there was no way in the world she was coming close to my daughter with a flat iron - huh-uh. She then tells me something about it being my lucky day because they're having a half-off sale (isn't that amazing!!) and I can get one of rooty-tooty-fresh-and-fruity flat irons for $99.99. I said, No thanks, and I walked off.

Maybe my hormones are a little whacked out because I've been pretty short tempered lately with strangers!!

Etsy Find - I'm Gonna Be A Big Sister Shirt

Did you see the cute little custom shirt I ordered for Maddie that announced my pregnancy? You can see it down below here in another post, and here's another shot of it.

I ordered it from an Etsy shop. I'm so new to Etsy, I don't even know what the proper lingo is, whether it's Etsy shop or Etsy dealer or whatever. But I ordered this from: Creations by Lisa McGrath.

You should go check out all she has to offer. She's got brother, sister, cousin, and tons of birthday shirts. All of them are adorable and the embroidery is impeccable. The prices are great too - shirts are anywhere from $13 to $15. Go check her out.
